Week 1: Jesus is coming - The Prophet's foretold it!
Lesson Objective:
It was always God's plan to send King Jesus to rescue us, God's prophets tell us so!
Bible Passage:
Isaiah 1:1-4, 7:1-14, Micah 5:1-5 (Prophecy about Jesus)
Memory Verse:
Isaiah 7:14 - A Virgin is pregnant. She will have a son and will name him Immanuel.
Story Idea: Animal Pairs
Warm Up: Animal Pairs
- Have the kids form pairs, blindfold everyone and give each pair the name of an animal
- The kids should scatter to all different sides of the room
- When you say go, partners should attempt to find each other by making only the noise of the animal they were given
- The first pair to correctly find each other wins!
Introduction:
How could you find your partner? (By the sound of their voice)
Who has a pet? Cat or Dog or something else?
Do your pets know who their owner is? (Yes) How do you know? (They follow/come to you, especially when it's time for food!)
Have the kids read the passages and answer the questions as follows:, 7:1-2 & 14 & Micah 5:1-5
* Read Isaiah 1:1-4 & 16 *
Quiz Questions:

1. Isaiah is a prophet, what is a prophet? Somebody who brings God's message to His people
2. What had the people forgotten? Who their master was
3. The people were sinning! How did God feel about that (see verse 16): Disgusted
* Read Isaiah 7:1-2 & 14 *
Quiz Questions:

1. What were King Ahaz and Judah so terrified of? People were planning to attack them!
2. Isaiah goes to reassure Ahaz - what hope does he offer? A lady will have a baby!
* Read Micah 5:1-5 *
Quiz Questions:

1. Jerusalem is in trouble, why? Enemy troops are surrounding Jerusalem!
2. Micah talks about a new ruler coming - where will the ruler come from? Bethlehem
3. What will the new ruler do that is like a shepherd taking care of sheep? Take care of His people
4. Micah says the whole earth will know His greatness because he will bring... Peace
5. Who do you think the promised king is that Isaiah and Micah are talking about? (Hint, born in Bethlehem!) Jesus
6. The people Isaiah and Micah are talking to are stuck in war, what do you think they thought the new king would do to help them? Defeat their enemies - stop the war
7. Jesus came to bring peace that was much greater than the people thought - peace with God by dealing with sin - how did Jesus do this? By dying on the cross
Game Idea: Stuck in the Mud
- Choose one or two kids to be up
- Those who are up should run around and attempt to tag everyone else
- When tagged, players stand with legs apart, as though 'stuck' in the mud
- Players may be un-stuck if another player comes along and touches their feet
- Continue play until all players are stuck or kids get tired
- Swap those who are 'up' every so often
Remind the kids that we were STUCK in our sin, God CAN'T STAND SIN but it was always his plan to send Jesus to fix sin and give peace with Him!
Craft Idea: Crown Christmas Decoration

Before the lesson:
- Download and print the Jesus crown template on yellow or orange card and cut out
- Download and print the promised king gem on coloured paper and cut out
- Gather ribbon, scissors, tape glitter, sequins, glue, shape cut-outs and anything else for decorating
Have the kids:
- Decorate their crown and include the printed gem which reminds them that Jesus is king
- Cut a length of ribbon and tape it to the back to create a hanging loop (young children will need help with this)
