Week 3: Serving God - To show others His love!

 

Lesson Objective:

When we serve God, we can show others his love and power!

 

Bible Passage:

Daniel 3: 16-30 (Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego Part 2)

 

Memory Verse:

Daniel 3:28- King Nebuchadnezzar said: Praise their God for sending an angel to rescue his servants! They trusted their God and refused to obey my commands.

Quiz Questions:

 

1. Did Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego love God above everything else? Yes

2. What did the king want them to do? Praise the Gold statue

3. What was the king's reaction when they wouldn't bow to the statue? Angry

4. What did he do to Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego? Had them thrown into the fire

5. What happened next? God sent someone to save the men - they were in the fire but didn't get burned!

6. How do you think all of the people looking on would have felt? Amazed!

7. The king was amazed at how powerful God is, what did he do? Make a command that nobody could say anything bad about God

8. What does this story tell us about God? He is powerful, we can trust Him

9. How do you know that Shadrach, Meshach and Abdednego love and trust God above everything? They are willing to die for Him

10. When we trust God above anything else, do you think that shows others that they can trust God too? Yes

Game Idea: Musical Statues

 

- Play some music and have the kids dance around the room, when you pause the music, everyone should be a statue!

- Anyone who is caught moving is out and can dance off to one side.

- The last player in is the winner

 

Remind the kids that God saved the men in the fire when they wouldn't bow to the statue and so everyone got to see how powerful God was!

Activity Idea: Balloon Rockets!

Before the lesson:

- Gather string, tape, straws and balloons from the cupboard

 

For the activity:

- Split the kids into teams, give each a balloon, some tape, a straw and a length of string

- Have them thread their straw onto one end of their string, blow up the balloon and tape it to the straw

- Allow them to stretch out the string, release the balloon and which it fly along the string

- Make it into a competition and see which teams balloon can go the furthest!

 

Discussion:

- What makes the balloon move? (Air)

- How do you know it's the air? (You can hear it whooshing out, you see the balloon move along as it's propeled along by the air)

- How do you know that the men in the story loved God? (They trusted Him and were willing to die for Him)

- How do you know that God is powerful and can be trusted? (He showed everyone when He protected the men from the fire)

Remind the kids that when we love and trust God above all else, it shows the world how awesome and powerful and loving He is!

Craft Idea: Fire Collage

Before the lesson:

- Download and print the fire collage template on white paper and the message reminder on red paper, then cut out the parts

- Cut flame-like pieces of orange, red and yellow tissue paper and cellophane

- Gather colouring pencils and glue

 

Have the kids:

- Colour in their picture

- Stick the fire pieces along the base

- Glue on their lesson reminder
