Lesson Objective:

God wants us to serve him because we love him more than anything else!

Bible Passage:

Daniel 3: 1-18 (Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego - Part 1)

Memory Verse:

John 14: 23- Jesus Replied: If anyone loves me, they will obey me. Then my father will love them, and we will come to them and live with them.

Story Idea: Watch It!

Quiz Questions:

1. What kind of statue did the king make? A gold one - 90 foot high!

2. What did the king want the people to do when the music played? Bow down to the statue

3. Would Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego bow down to the statue? No

4. Is God more powerful than statues and other things made by people? Yes

5. Why do you think they wouldn't? Because they loved God and wanted to worship Him first!

6. Should we put God first in our lives too? Yes

7. Can it sometimes be easy to let things distract us from God? Yes

8. What can distract us from God? TV, computer games, friends, sport, toys etc.

9. How can we practice putting God first in our lives? Pray and ask God to help us, make time to pray and read Bible, come to church etc.

Game Idea: Simon Says

- Call out 'Simon Says...' and an action (eg. sit, stand, jump, hop etc.) and demonstrate the action

- The children should copy the action each time unless you don't say 'Simon says' first

- If they do the action without Simon's say so, they are out and can sit or stand to one side

Remind the kids that king Neb tried to force everyone to bow down to a golden statue, but God's followers knew that God was more important, they weren't afraid to stand (and stand out) while everyone else was bowing!

Game Idea: Lighthouse Challenge!

- Put a teddy bear in the corner of the room and lay out a series of markers randomly in the play space

- Have the kids make partners

- One partner should be blindfolded and start at one side, while the other stands at the other side

- The seeing partner should call out directions to guide the blindfolded partner through the space without stepping on the markers (if a few pairs are racing, anyone who steps on a marker should start again!)

Ask the kids:

- Who did you listen to for directions? (The person who could see and who knew the way)

- Would you ask the teddy for directions? (No)

- Why not? (The teddy can't see or help you!)

Explain that we should put our trust in God and follow Him above anyone or anything else because He is the most powerful!
