Week 8: Jesus Saved Us -Tell Everyone!
Lesson Objective:
After Jesus had risen again, He appeared to His disciples and told them to tell everyone the good news about Him!
Bible Passage:
Luke 24:36-53
Memory Verse:
Luke 24:47-48 - They also say that all people of every nation must be told in my name to turn to God, in order to be forgiven. So beginning in Jerusalem, you must tell everything that has happened.
Story Idea: Object Lesson and Tell It!
Before the lesson, gather:
- A glass half filled with water
- A tray or bowl to collect the water
- A piece of cardboard (the waxed kind works best) just large enough to cover the glass
Recap:
-Ask the kids if they remember what the Easter story is about
- Prompt them to remember that Jesus died, was buried and rose to life again, leaving an empty tomb
Object Lesson:
- Ask the kids if they've ever seen something amazing, something that was hard to believe...
- Place the cardboard over the top of the glass and turn the whole lot upside down above the tray, holding the card firmly in place
- Ask the kids what they think will happen when you let go of the cardboard (hear them guess - all the water will drop into the bucket!)
- Gently let go of the card, it should stay on the glass and the water will stay inside
- Listen to the kids' surprise and ask them why they think it's staying there (glued or stuck there etc.)
- Tell them it's not glued and allow someone to come and pull the card off to check make the water fall into the bowl
Story telling:
- At Easter we celebrate that Jesus died and rose again for us
- Jesus was buried on a tomb and three days later His friends found the tomb empty
- Jesus appeared to His disciples after He rose from the dead
- At first they were all VERY SCARED
- They thought Jesus had died and didn't expect to see Him - it seemed unbelievable... just like the water in the glass!
- Jesus told His disciples to come and touch His hands and see the scars
- The disciples were AMAZED - it really WAS Jesus!
- Jesus spent some time with them
- He reminded them that He had died so that everyone could be forgiven for their sins!
- Jesus loved us SO much that He would die for us, to get rid of our sin, so that we could be part of God's family, to have a friendship with God!
- This is such EXCITING AND WONDERFUL news!
- Jesus told His disciples to go and tell everyone the good news - they could be part of God's family too!
Quiz Questions:
1. Who made us? God
2. Why did God make us? To be part of His family - to be His friend
3. Could our sin ruin our friendship with God? yes
4. How did Jesus deal with our sin? By dying on the cross
5. How did the disciples feel when they realised that Jesus was alive? Scared at first, then amazed!
6. Why do you think Jesus would die on the cross for us? He loves us, He wants us to be part of God's family
7. What does God want us to do with the good news about Jesus? Tell others!
Game Idea: Easter Egg Challenge!
- Depending on the size of the group, have all of the kids work together or split the kids into teams
- Give each team some supplies (half cut pieces of paper towel or toilet roll, half cut pieces of pipe or sheets of paper) and an Easter Egg
- Challenge the teams to move the egg from one side of the play space to the other as fast as possible (if multiple teams - have the teams race or if one team - have them complete the challenge multiple times to try and beat their time)
- The egg cannot be touched with the hands or thrown and team members must stand still if they have the egg in their piece of tube or paper
- If the egg is dropped, the whole team should start again
- The kids will need to work together, placing the egg in one tube, and rolling it into the tube of the next person, with the others moving to the front of the line so the egg advances
Remind the kids that Jesus told us to take the Easter message - the good news - to the rest of the world so that they know they can be part of God's family too! As a church, we all use our different strengths and work together to tell others about Jesus!
Craft Idea: Cross Light Catcher

Before the lesson, gather:
- Pieces of white cardboard or small canvases (one per child)
- Masking or electrical tape (that an be easily peeled off)
- Paint, sponges and scissors from cupboard
- Sharpie Pens
Have the kids:
- Cut pieces of tape and stick them to their work to form a cross shape
- Paint over the tape to cover the page
- Write the lesson message on their work somewhere (eg. Forgiven... thanks to Jesus!)
Prayer Idea: Blackboard Prayers
- Give each kid a blackboard and a piece of chalk
- Have them write down on their board one thing they want to thank God for, one thing they want to ask for God's help with and one thing they want to pray for somebody else about
- Go around the circle and have each child pray for the things on their board
