Year 1, Term 1, Week 6: Ideas for Junior Group
Week 6: Jesus is here... He shows us His power!
Lesson Objective:
Jesus shows us that he is from God, and that he has power, and power over death.
Bible Passage:
Luke 7:11-17
Memory Verse:
Luke 7:16- Everyone was frightened and praised God. They said “A great prophet is here with us! God has come to his people!”
Story Idea: Air Pictionary and Watch It!
- Ask the kids what the most powerful thing they can think of is (eg. big trucks, trains, dinosaurs, rocket ships etc.)
- Ask the kids why a rocket-ship is so powerful (it has to fly way up into space!)

Have the kids watch the following youtube video, starting from 27 seconds:

Quiz Questions:
1. How was the woman in the story feeling? Sad
2. What was she sad about? Her son and her husband had both died
3. Did Jesus care for the lady? Yes
4. What amazing miracle did Jesus do? Raised her son from the dead
5. Does this miracle show us that Jesus is amazingly powerful? Yes!
6. Is Jesus more powerful than a rocket-ship? Yes
7. Do you think Jesus cares for us when we are sad or hurt too? Yes!
Game Idea: Pin the flame on the rocket ship!
- Download and print the rocket ship picture and flames (one flame per child) and collect blind-folds from the cupboard
- Stick the rocket ship to the wall and put a piece of blue tack on the back of each flame
- Have the kids line up and take turns being blindfolded and trying to stick the flame at the bottom of the rocket ship
- The child who gets closest wins
Remind the kids that rocket ships are powerful, but Jesus is even more powerful than that! He can do miracles, just like he raised the widows son from the dead. Jesus cares for us!
Craft Idea: Jesus is more powerful than a rocket ship!

- Gather pencils or crayons, glue, sticky tape, staplers and various colours of tissue paper, sequins, mosaic bits and pieces and anything else the kids might use to decorate

- Glue triangles to the back of the bottom or top of their sheet
Help the kids:

- Roll and staple their paper tube
- Sticky tape the cone to the top
- Sticky tape the trailing heart into the inside of the tube
