Week 1: Creation: Our Special Purpose!

Lesson Objective:
God created everything in the universe and it was good! He created humans with the special purpose of having a relationship with Him!

Bible Passage:
Genesis 1:1-31
​
Memory Verse:
Genesis 1:27- God looked at what he had done. All of it was very good! Evening came and then morning, that was the sixth day!
Story Idea: Creation Scene
- Set up a creation scene using bed sheets for water/land, stuffed animals, painted sun/moon, fairy lights for stars etc.
- Download and print the creation day numbers and cut out
- Narrate the creation story or read it from the Bible and have children listen out for the following phrases and complete actions along with you:
- ‘Evening came and then morning’ – children put head on hands as if sleeping, then yawn as if waking up
- ‘and it was good’ – Children put thumbs up
- ‘The ___ day’ – Select a child to place the day number on the part of the creation scene that was made that day
Quiz Questions:
1. Who created everything? God
2. Who created you? God
3. What did God think about His creation? It was very good!
4. Who were people made to be like? God
5. Why do you think God created us? To have and enjoy a friendship with God
Note: John 6:40- My Father wants everyone who sees the Son to have faith in him and to have eternal life.
6. Why do you think God wants us to have a special friendship with Him? He made us and He loves us, He wants us to know Him and enjoy knowing Him
Game: Picture Musical Chairs

- Before the lesson, download and print the creation picture set
- Set up a game of musical chairs with the chairs in a circle and attach one picture to each chair
- Children walk around the chairs to music, when the music stops, call out something that was created... the children have to find the picture and go and line up at that chair (the first child touches the chair, the second forms a chain with the first and the third with the second etc.)
- Any children who pick the wrong chair are out, if everyone is correct, the last child in the line is out and sits off to the side
- The last child in the game wins!
Activity Idea: Creation Scavenger Hunt
- Have the kids go outside and find something from creation that they like or find interesting
- Gather all the things together and have each kid share what they picked and why and help them work out which day it was created on
- Encourage the kids to see how special and amazing God's world is and explain that it shows us how amazing God is!
- Have the kids find different parts of their bodies (eyes, feet, ears, knees, elbows, belly buttons etc.)
- Encourage them to see that God made them for the special purpose of knowing Him - how awesome!
Activity Idea: The Butterfly Song
- Sing praises to Jesus for creating us by singing the butterfly song together!
- Don't forget to throw in some actions!

Whole Group Craft Contribution: Stars
- Before the lesson, download and print the stars template and cut out the stars
- Have the kids paint both sides of the stars silver, grey, gold or yellow
- Have the kids sprinkle glitter over the stars while the paint is drying to make them sparkly
- Hang the stars among the planets made by the older two groups with the lesson reminder sign above (sign template in senior group lesson plan)
